We spoke to Jaziba Syed, apprentice Project Manager with AECOM

Can you describe your role in a few words?

My role involves making sure that that daily tasks on any given project are met to the highest quality and time standards.

What were you doing prior to your Apprenticeship?

Prior to my apprenticeship role I was a university student, studying investment banking, and also working in a part-time retail role.

What was your perception of the sector before you started your apprenticeship?

I thought the sector would be male dominated, however I was pleasantly surprised that there is a lot of diversity within my team.

What interested you in joining AECOM?

The apprenticeship that AECOM were offering was an opportunity and a guarantee into the world of project management, which is why I was keen to pursue it.

What are the key things you’ve learnt so far in your job?

I’ve learnt how to programme in Microsoft project, and also how to use Mobiess (an application that allows surveyors to record their surveys). I’ve also learnt how important it is to communicate effectively with clients.

What is the most exciting part of your role?

It really is that I am learning something new every day.

What would you like to do after completing your apprenticeship?

I would like to carry on pursuing a role in project management as I am enjoying my role currently.
